ENEM focus, enforced

Turn distraction into admission.

Destrava takes on the biggest obstacle facing students preparing for Brazil's national college entrance exam: their own phone. Rather than simply blocking distractions, it converts that time into study. Scopo shaped the product, built the entire system, and shipped it to both app stores.

The challenge

A market of millions — and a problem nobody had solved.

Every year, millions of Brazilian students prepare for the ENEM exam. Almost all of them study with a phone beside them, and almost all of them lose to it. Parents know it, schools know it, and the only answer on offer so far was to confiscate.

Generic blockers don't work because they give nothing back: they're easy to bypass, they start arguments at home, and they get uninstalled inside a week. None of them gives the student a reason to keep them.

The opportunity was to invert the logic. If the block produced studying, it would stop being a punishment and become a habit the student — and whoever pays the subscription — actually wants to keep.

The solution

The block stops being a punishment and becomes study time.

The student picks the apps that distract them most and sets a time limit. When the time runs out, all of them lock together. To unlock, they answer exam-style questions. The cycle repeats as many times as needed through the day.

Every round returns a score calculated with the same statistical methodology as the official exam. The student isn't collecting points: they see where they stand, subject by subject, on the scale that matters.

The result is a product with three audiences and a single argument — the student gains focus, the parent gains peace, the school gains results. That's what sustains a recurring subscription instead of a forgotten download.

Before writing code we defined what the product would and would not be: one core mechanic, one revenue model, one quality bar. Anything that didn't serve those three was cut from the first release.

Implementation

Five systems built and shipped in parallel: the app on both platforms, the service behind content and scoring, the internal operations panel, user sign-in, and the marketing site. First commit in May, approved on both stores in July.

Evolution

With the product live, evolution became led by usage and conversion data: subscriptions with a free trial, accounts so a student's history survives a new phone, and a roadmap set by what the numbers show.

Why it's defensible

Hard to build. Hard to copy.

Platform barrier

Genuinely blocking apps depends on restricted permissions that Apple and Google grant case by case, under review. Destrava holds that approval on both stores. It's what separates real enforcement from a reminder the user swipes away — and it isn't something a competitor solves by writing code.

Assessment held to exam-board standards

The student's score comes from the same statistical methodology the official exam uses, applied across sixteen years of public exam papers. That takes subject-matter depth, not just development — and it's what earns credibility with schools and prep courses.

Privacy as a selling point

The most sensitive data in the product — how the student uses their phone — never leaves the device. That simplifies compliance and pre-empts the main objection from parents and institutions.
